Meet Our Commander, Steve Brandau…
“In May of 1975, Commander Brandau enlisted in the Navy. He served four years active duty and two years inactive as a Jet Aviation Machinist Mate.
"Working on Hueys was a great experience. I appreciated, even at that youthful age, how active these planes and helicopters were in American history for training and wars."
Boot camp was at the Great Lakes Naval Air Station, followed by training school in Millington, Tennessee.
Commander Brandau spent the remainder of his service at Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, Florida.
He married Pam on Nov 15, 1975. They have four children, fivegrandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
After leaving the Navy, he started his own construction and remodeling company, which he still runs today.
Commander Brandau's uncle Reymond Brandau and his father, William Brandau Jr. were past members of Post 508. His ambition was always to be a part of the rich history of the American Legion. He wanted to march in the parades, be in the honor guard and help where needed within the Legion.
His current position of commander is a true honor. He hopes that he is making all the past commanders and his family are proud of his service to both comrades and the community.”
