American Legion Post 360 Activities: -Sponsor a Memorial Day Service which includes a Parade, a service at the Waunakee Veteran’s Memorial and a pot luck lunch. -Do Military Honors at Union, Kolman, Kingsley, St. John’s and St. Mary of the Lake Cemeteries on Memorial Day -Award 2-$1000 scholarships at Waunakee High School -Sponsor 2 Junior Boys from Waunakee High School to attend Badger Boys State in Ripon, WI. -Provide full military rites with color guard to deceased Veterans, even if deceased is not a legion member. Ten to twenty-five Legion members participate in military honors each time. -Participate in Dane County Youth Government Days with Waunakee Middle School. Waunakee has the most participating from the county school districts. -Volunteer to distribute and donate winter clothing to homeless Veterans at Wayne Horner Memorial Stand down -Participate in Waunafest parade and sponsor entertainment and beer garden -Present colors at Waunakee’s Community Bands Patriotic Concert around July 4th -Assemble food packs for “Feed the need” -Visit all 4 elementary schools on Veteran’s Day and do a pledge program with 1st graders. Present each with a small flag -Supply all flags for Waunakee schools. -Provide and hand out Citizenship awards each trimester at the Intermediate School. Winners are voted by teachers and peers. -Provide and hand out honor roll certificates each semester at the Middle School. High honor roll also get a pin. Each year for 51 years awarded two citizenship awards and $150 check to two students. -Hold fish fries each month October- April for the community -Monetarily we support Veteran’s Memorials, Veteran’s medical centers, Homeless Veterans Standdown, a Boy Scout troop, Girl Scouts, School Sock Hop, Post Prom Party, Project Graduation, Girls Softball, A Safety Patrol program and Special Olympics Relay for Life, Food Pantry, Home talent baseball, EMS, fire department, Waunafest, Waunakee Community Band, lap quilts for VA Medical Center, Food Fare for 2, Kids Against Hunger, Hugh O’Brien Program. -Donated 70 flags to the Village of Waunakee to decorate Main Street for special days -Decorate and Undecorated VA Hospital at Christmas time. -Donated towards the lights on the Waunakee High School baseball diamond -Present the colors whenever requested. For example opening of main street, Special Olympics swim meet, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and more -Serve as color guard for retuning Veterans on a Badger Honor Flight -Sponsor the community Leadership Award for Waunakee High School -Maintain our Veteran’s Memorial in Village Park -At our Christmas party collect funds for needy in the community
