Post Namesake

Ladewig-Zinkgraf

The Post was charted on March 16, 1920 with 15 members. The first meeting was held at the Plymouth library, and election of Post officers and other committees was held. All 15 memebrs served in the US Army 32nd Red Arrow Division. Prior to the first meeting the Post's namesakes was selected, as Ladewig-Zinkgraf. Nine Plymouth residents were casualities of war. Two died as a result of combat and seven as a result of maladies that today would have been treatable. Two members of Company C 127 inf 32nd Red Arrow Division died as a result of combat; Walter Ladewig and Clarence Zinkgraf.

Walter Ladewig was severly wounded on August 8, 1918 near Fisme France. He was transported to the States. After several surguries he was again transported, this time to an Army hospital at Fort Sheridan Illinois. He was awaiting another transport when he succumed to his wounds on September 6, 1919. He was given full military rites at his grave site in Plymouth by future charter members of the Post.

Clarence Zinkgraf had seen action in 9 major campaigns. He was assigned to the Company mail room, as a break from his actions in combat, in September of 1918. Toward the end of September he told his mail room comrades he was going on sick call. He actually rejoined his comabt outfit. After the war his brother William came home, and there was no sign of Clarence. After an intensive search and with the help of US Wisconsin Senator Robert LaFollete the Army reported that Clarence was killed in action on October 4, 1918 during the Argonne Offensive. He is buried in the military cemetery in Romagne France

First Post membership meeting

The Post first membership meeting was held at the Plymouth library and called to order by Allan R. Wade at 7:45 PM. The first order of business was the election of officers. The following were elected;

Commander Wayne E. Vesey, Vice Commander Elwood Bade, Adjutant Alfred Lautenbach, Finance Officer Otto Wick, Historian George Mooney, Master at Arms William Zinkgraf and Chaplain Burke Ponder.

Next order of business was to appoint a committee construct the Post Constitution and..
