Juneau American Legion Post 15 has its own building again. Closing on the Legion's purchase of the building at 162 E. Oak St, in Juneau took place Friday at the Valley Bank of Juneau.

Post 15 members agreed in September to purchase the building, which houses Barb's Beauty Salon, from Lawrence Buhr. Barb's Beauty Salon will still be located in the building as will an apartment on the upper level. The Legion's meeting room is to be in the back portion of the building. However some remodeling work will be done before Post 15 starts meeting there, according to Building Committee Chairman Armin Grosenick. He hopes the remodeling can be completed in six to twelve months. Grosenick said the Legion has been looking for a building of its own ever since it sold its old building, now Parkview Apartments, about 10 years ago. The proceeds from that sale are going towards this purchase, Grosenick added.

"It's traditional for American Legion members to have their own building," Grosenick said. "I think it helps make for a more cohesive membership."

In addition, Grosenick pointed out, Legion members will have access to the building every day and can sponsor more activities. "It is important to provide something for our younger people too."

Members of the Legion Post 15 building committee include Grosenick; Rick Neff, Vice Chairman and Finance Officer; Ralph Sharp, legal advisor; Howard Uttech and Dave Yuenger. Ex officio members are Del Winter, Commander; Larry Walsh, Adjutant; and Ron Kohrt, Post 15 Finance officer.
