Miss Knott becomes the FIrst Lady Member of Jackson Perks

Reported in the Spirit of Jefferson Newspaper on May 16, 1945: Miss Dorothy E. Knott, of Bakerton, is the first lady member of Jackson-Perks Post 71 and she is also believed to be the first in the Tenth District, American Legion Department of West Virginia. Miss Knott entered the WAVES on May1, 1943 and was trained at Hunter College, New York City, finishing with the rank of Pharmacist Mate, second class. She was honorably discharged form the service on December 5, 1944.
