Troop 1204 Scoutmaster Ben Larig, reported on troop activities over the past year and plans for 2020.

 

 

 

Dee Smith, Friendly Flower Garden Club, gave a presentation on the Blue Star Highway Marker Project. There are more than 2,500 markers nationwide and 52 in Washington State. They are currently raising funds to place a marker in Lacey at the Civic Plaza on Slater Kinney Road. They are asking our help to raise funds by supporting their breakfast at Appleby’s on January 25. Tickets are $10 with $5 going to the project. Plans are to dedicate the marker on Flag Day, June 14, 2020.

Committee Reports

 

 

 

·       Finance Officer Jose Vargas reported that the bank account is at $3,290.15 and the Boys State account stats at $310.68.

 

·       Service Officer Rose Hodgeboom reported that between Gary Walker, Len Tobin and her, some 70 claims were submitted in December. They are working with some 150 veterans behind the wire and are now involved with the Timberline Library on a video claim project with veterans in the Randal area.

 

·       Judge Advocate Dave Hodgeboom reported on the upcoming Department Mid-Winter Conference at the Lacey Community Center, January 31-February 1. The Post will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Friday evening.

 

·       Adjutant Larry Granish reported that the post is currently at 201 members for its goal of 213, 94.37%. Motion made seconded and passed that the post pay the dues for 4 WWII members who have not yet paid their dues.

 

 

 

 

 

Business and Correspondence

 

 

 

·       Dave Hodgeboom reported that a motion was made at the December meeting to raise our dues $5 to $55 effective with the 2021 Membership year. In accordance with our by-laws, no action was taken at that time and the motion was to be considered at the next (January) meeting. Motion was made, seconded and passed to raise due $5 to $55, effective with the 2021 Membership Year.

 

·       Rose Hodgeboom stated that the post would host a spaghetti dinner on Friday, January 31. Menu will include a green salad and garlic bread. Scouts from Troop 1208 will help. Cost will be $10. Anyone wanting to help should contact Rose or Larry Granish.

 

 

 

Good of the Legion:

 

 

 

·       Adjutant Granish announced that we will have a ham dinner at our next meeting which will be on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

 

·       Jose Vargas reported that the Thurston County Veterans Council is working on the program at the Capitol on Memorial Day.

 

·       Dave Hodgeboom reported that the Legislature is currently meeting in session for 60 days. He has copies of proposed legislation concerning veterans’ issues.

 

·       Len Tobin spoke on importance of buddy checks.
