E-Board Meeting
August 2019
· Commander
a. Educator of the Year Award Nominations
i. four nominations received and did not win department award.
ii. Department will send me certificates of appreciation
iii. Does Post want to do something extra besides the certificates, i.e. small monetary award at steak night, etc.? Department does $500 per awardee
b. Late September food baskets drive for stand-down will start up
c. Boys/Girls State and Educator of the Year lessons learned and plan for up-coming year
i. Form committee and get started early in school year.
ii. Talk to principals and superintendent as well as counselors about boys/girls state, educator of the year, and oratorial contest.
d. Post had great convention
i. Dave won Alt NEC
ii. I was installed as District Vice
iii. Post won three awards
e. National Commander Dinner Budget
i. Post came out ahead $518.93.
ii. E-Board decided to recommend to membership the following at the August Post meeting:
1. $100 to Boy Scout Troop
2. $50 to each of the Educator of the Year Awardees
3. Balance to Boys State Fund or start a rainy day fund
f. Post 3 Ceremony on 17 August 2019 from 1-2 pm at Tivoli Fountain on Capital Campus to celebrate 100 years of the American Legion
g. Boy Scout eagle project update
i. Back porch and painting of Post building
h. Establishment of Post publicity committee with Jose and Aaron B leading it.
· New/Current Business
a. Could we get past Post Commanders photos remounted? 4:00 pm on 9 August (Dave, Jose, and Gary)
b. Home Depot projects
i. Our grant application – application accepted on 10 July including porch flooring and railing repairs. Awaiting decision (up to six weeks)
ii. New project – David Gray, Lacey, Current era combat vet with 100% back and MS. New deck, steps, railings, and fence. Tentatively scheduled for 6 September for two day project. No walkway to be built.
c. Annual Membership and Award Night – 13 September Gary to call special E-Board meeting to get things organized.
i. Meal – anticipate 75 people.
