Minutes of April 12, 2019 meeting approved as posted on website.

 

 

 

Sergeant-at-Arms, Kevin Lindsey introduced visitors, guests and prospective members, including SAL Detachment Commander Bob Clark and Darlyn Clark.

 

 

 

Donald Lachman escorted forward and spoke on program to process VA claims remotely. Westcare Foundation has goal of opening the first “teleservice” café in Randal within 180 days. LINK is HIPPA compliant and meets DoD security requirements. He also spoke on supporting incarcerated vets. After answering questions, Commander presented him with a Legion coin.

 

 

 

Robert (Bob) Clark escorted forward and spoke on why he is running for Department Commander for the 2019-2020 Legion year.

 

 

 

Committee Reports

 

 

 

·       Adjutant Granish reported that membership is currently 185 of goal of 213, 6.85%. Motion made, seconded and passed to accept transfer of Michael Plympton from Maine Post 138. He is a Navy, Vietnam, veteran. After his acceptance for membership he was escorted forward and spoke on the Lacey Land Yacht Harbor work to raise money for the Northwest Battle Buddies, an organization that trains service dogs for vets. A fundraiser is scheduled for June 1.

 

·       Finance Officer, Dave Hodgeboom, reported that the balance as of April 30 is $2,714.45 and Evergreen Boys State is currently at $444.34. Tuition for one boy is due to Department.

 

·       Service Officer. Rose Hodgeboom, reported that she has processed more than thirty claims and Commander Walker, more than twenty over the past month.

 

·       Auxiliary Unit President, Karen Grundler, reported that they will be sponsoring four girls and that we will host orientation on May 19 at 1:30. Poppies will be presented on May 17-19 at the Safeway located at Carpenter and Pacific. The Unit currently has 19 members.

 

·       Eric Strom spoke about the EBS/EGS interviews held at the post.

 

·       Auxiliary Unit President, Karen Grundler, reported that we will present poppies at the Safeway at Carpenter and Pacific on May 17-19, She has a sign-up sheet. We will be hosting the Evergreen Girls State orientation on May 19. The unit has funds for one girl. Corky Cunningham will sponsor a girl.

 

 

 

Business and Correspondence

 

 

 

·       Copies of Resolutions received for consideration at Department Convention have been received and are available in the back. If you have comments or recommendation on any of them, speak with our delegates.

 

·       Nominating Committee, Rose Hodgeboom presented the third reading of nominees for the 2019-2020 year is as follows.

o   1st Vice Commander, Eric Strom

 

o   2nd Vice Commander, Bob Nakamura

 

o   Adjutant, Larry Granish

 

o   Finance Officer, Jose Vargas

Commander asked if there were any further nominations. There being none, motion was made, seconded and passed, directing the Adjutant cast a unanimous ballot for the above slate of officers.

 

·       Adjutant Granish reported that the post is authorized three delegates and three alternate delegates for convention. Past Department Commander, Dave Hodgeboom, is a Delegate-at-Large. After discussion, the following were selected to represent the Post at the Convention in Spokane:

 

o   Gary Walker, Delegate          

 

o   Rose Hodgeboom, Delegate

 

o   Larry Granish, Delegate

 

o   Len Tobin, Alternate Delegate

 

·       Commander announced that Department Legion College will be in Ellensburg, August 3-5. He encouraged anyone interested to attend, particularly officers who had not yet attended.

 

·       Otis Chapman, Educator of the Year Chair, spoke about progress or the program. This will be the first time the post has participated.

 

·       Post cleanup will be on Saturday, June 8.

 

 

 

Good of the Legion:

 

 

 

·       The Post will host National Commander Brett Reistad for a dinner on Thursday, June 27 for a roast beef dinner. Cost will be $15 and you are asked to email lgrani@comcast.net by June 21 if you plan to attend. Several community leaders have been invited to attend as has EMT of the Year awardee, Sam Leopardo.

 

·       Upcoming Memorial Day events:

 

o   May 25, 8:30, placing flags at Woodlawn and Forest Cemeteries

 

o   May 26, 1:00, Waterside ceremony at Perceval Landing

 

o   May 27, 11:00 Ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda

 

o   May 27, 2:00, meet at post to load chairs

 

o   May 27, 4:00, ceremony at Woodlawn

 

Teresa Goen spoke about the ceremony at Woodlawn. The Legion band will begin at 3:30.

 

·       Lacey Joggernauts will be conducting a Memorial Weekend Poppy 5km walk/run on Saturday, May 25.

 

·       Larry Alvar thanked the Post for making he and Mike Plympton feel welcome.
