Commander Walker opened the meeting at 7:30 pm
Minutes of October 11, 2018 meeting approved as posted on website.
Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Lindsey introduced visitors, guests and prospective members. Sign-in list attached.
Shelly Hinzman and Anita Vargo from Santa’s Castle were introduced and escorted forward. Santa’s Castle mission is to make sure junior enlisted members have toys for their children. They explained the history and process. Some 200 “elves” volunteer to help parents pick out toys. Last year they served 2131 kids in 925 families and have received more than 600 applications so far this year. Commander gave them a check from the Post in the amount of $100 and challenge coins.
Committee Reports
· Adjutant Granish reported that membership is currently 141 of goal of 213, 66.7%. Applications for membership were received from Kellet Sayre and John-Ione Fiafia Maalafa. Motion made, seconded and passed to accept them as members.
· Finance Officer Dave Hodgeboom reported balance is currently $3,222.75 and Evergreen Boys State is currently at $285.34.
· Vice Commander Larry Douglas reported that Fisher House is scheduled to make a presentation in December and the Boy Scouts in January.
· Service Officer Rose Hodgeboom reported that she has mailed in some thirty claims over the past month.
· Chaplain Otis Chapman reported Corky Cunningham is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday and that Karen Grundler is recovering at home from her surgery.
· Historian Eric Strom reported that he has some pictures that he would like posted on our website. He will work with Jose Vargas on this.
Business and Correspondence
· Commander Walker stated that he would like to have a work party in January to clean and straighten out the closets and kitchen cabinets.
· Commander reported on progress on the Home Depot Foundation application. We would like to replace the post windows and clean the roof with this. We are also looking to have the gutters leveled.
Good of the Legion:
· This Veterans Day is the 100th Anniversary of the end of WWI. WDVA will be the lead on the ceremony at the Capitol beginning at 10:30 with a ringing of bells at 11:00. The Legion Band will provide music.
· The Auxiliary donated their remaining poppies to the St Martins University Veterans and they were passed out at their Veterans Day ceremony on November 8.
· Stand Down at the Olympia Armory is scheduled for November 16. Sixty-six families have signed up for food baskets. We will rent a truck to pick up food pallets from the Thurston County Food Bank and deliver them to the Armory. Help is needed at the Armory.
There being no further business, Commander Walker closed the meeting at 8:20.
