Commander Walker opened the meeting at 7:30 pm

 

 

 

Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Lindsey introduced guests.  They included Kim Fong, Sidewalk; Brian Johnston, Post 100 and his wife, Claudia. Claudia is transferring into the Unit. List is attached.

 

 

 

Kim Fong escorted forward and spoke on her work at the Lacey Veterans Hub with Sidewalk and efforts to assist homeless veterans. Kim is a Navy veteran. Sidewalk is a non-profit organization for homeless. She is the veterans coordinator and currently has a list of 58 homeless vets. They house the most venerable veterans first. She reported that substance abuse is less an issue with vets. The most common reason for veterans homelessness is mental health, such as PTSD.

 

 

 

Commander Walker presented Kim with a challenge coin and thanked her for her presentation.

Committee Reports

 

·       Membership.  Adjutant Larry Granish reported that membership is at 193/226, 85.40% of goal.

 

·       Finance Officer Dave Hodgeboom is excused and Adjutant Granish reported that the Post has a balance or $4,134.22. Evergreen Boys State balance is $912.64. Report for April 30 is attached.

 

·       Service Officer Rose Hodgeboom reported that she has processed thirty claims over the past month, most at the Lacey Veterans Hub. She is seeing five to seven claims each week.

 

·       Auxiliary-President Karen Grundler reported that the Unit welcomes Claudia Johnston. There are still several time slots open for Poppy Presentation May 18-21 at the Safeway at Pacific and Carpenter.

 

·       Chaplain Otis Chapman had no reports of sickness or distress.

 

 

 

Business and Correspondence

 

·       Nomination Committee: Commander Walker read the final report of the Nomination Committee for the 2018-2019 Legion Year:

Nominations were declared open and there being no nominations from the floor, Commander closed nominations. Motion made, seconded and passed that the officers be elected by acclamation and the Adjutant cast a ballot to that effect.

 

·       Adjutant Granish informed the membership that the Post is authorized 3 delegates and 3 alternate delegates at Department Convention. Past Department Commander Dave Hodgeboom will be a delegate-at-large. Commander asked for nominations for delegates: Larry Granish, Rose Hodgeboom and Gary Walker selected to represent the Post.

 

·       Adjutant reported that the Department has reviewed our By-Laws and approved them with several recommendations for inclusion in any future revision. Commander Walker appointed Larry Granish, Rose Hodgeboom and Jose Vargas to review our by-laws and report any proposed revisions at our August meeting. Proposed revisions would be voted by the membership at our October meeting.

 

·       Otis Chapman reported on efforts to get a cell tower on our property as a source of income. He has an application for Sprint and plans to complete and submit. He reported no movement on timber issue and will let it lie for now. The porch on the end door has rotted and need replacement. Otis has measured it and will get a materials estimate.

 

·       Adjutant Granish reported on need to repair septic system for pavilion. Bids have been received from APlus and AA American Septic. Depending on the need to rehabilitate the drain field, costs could reach nearly $3000.00. AA American will also install risers at cost bid by HD Fowler. Bids are attached. Motion made and passed to hire AA American Septic.

 

 


 

 

Good of the Legion:

 

·       Memorial Day activities:

 

o   Saturday, 8:00 am meet at Post to place flags at Woodlawn and Forest Cemeteries

 

o   Sunday 1:00 pm, Waterside Service at Percival Landing

 

o   Monday 11:00 am, Capitol Rotunda

 

o   Monday, 2:00 pm, meet at Post to pick-up/load chairs

 

o   Monday 4:00 pm, Woodlawn

 

·       Rose Hodgeboom spoke on Special Olympics and need for volunteers the first weekend of June. She asked that we consider a fund raiser in the fall.

 

·       President Karen Grundler reported that she presented poppies to council members at the Lacey City Council meeting.

 

·       The Department will have an open house on June 27.

 

·       Jose Vargas reported that JBLM-McCord Field will be open on Armed Forces Day.
