Chaplain (LTC) Donald Brewer, III, escorted forward. Chap. Brewer thanked everyone for their service to our Nation. He spoke about his 27 years service as a citizen soldier in the Washington National Guard. He deployed twice since 9/11. He became a chaplain in 2007 and his grandfather was serving in the Coast Guard at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

 

 

 

Chaplain Brewer spoke on suicide prevention, and the continued need to be aware or our fellow veterans.

 

 

 

After his presentation, Commander Walker presented him with a Legion coin and $200 in gift cards for Camp Murray.

 

 

 

Motion made, seconded and passed to accept Chaplain Brewer as a member of the post. Post will pay his 2018 dues.

 

 

 

Motion made, seconded and passed to suspend regular business and proceed to Good of the Legion. However the following written reports were received and are included in the minutes:

 

·       Membership.  Adjutant Larry Granish reported that membership is at 158/226, 69.91% of goal.

 

·        Finance report: general fund of $4,509.94 and Evergreen Boys State at $843.19.  

 

 

 

Business and Correspondence: waived

 

 

 

 

 

Good of the Legion:

 

·       Scoutmaster Ken Yates spoke about Venture Crew’s elk camp. He thanked the post and the Legion for our support and reported that more than 5000 adult volunteer hours over the past year for the troop and crew.

 

·       Ryan Johnson, Post 100, spoke on Evergreen Boys State. He has been on the EBS staff for eight years. Boys State will be at Warm Beach Camp beginning on Fathers Day. The Department is working on busses.

 

·       Karen Grundler spoke on Evergreen Girls State, which will be the week before at Central Washington University.

 

·       A list of legislative issues affecting veterans issues is available and attached.
