Commander Gary Walker opened the meeting at 7:30 and welcomed everyone.

Minutes of August 11, 2017 approved as distributed.
 
4th District Commander Frank Sterling escorted forward. Past Commander Vern Whittle was presented with plaque as expression of thanks for his service.
 
Gil White, USAF retired, of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), escorted forward and introduced by Vice Commander Larry Douglas.
 
Gil spoke on his Air Force career and then spoke on the mission of the CAP. They work with cadets 12-18 years old. The squadron currently has 24 cadets. Senior members are 21 and older. Twenty-eight squadrons in the State have 691 cadets and 765 seniors. Most of the seniors are licensed pilots. Squadrons are associated with local police/sheriff departments and assist them during emergencies such as floods. They have also participated in the Wreaths Across America program. CAP is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
 
Commander Walker thanked Gil and presented him with a Legion coin and invitation to join our post.

2 Commander appointed Dave Hodgeboom to serve as Finance Officer.
 
Reports:
 
 Membership.  Adjutant Larry Granish reported that membership is at 125/226, 55.31% of goal. James Notter, Army, Vietnam, transferred from Post 110. Applications for membership received from Don Seese, Navy, Vietnam and March Grandmaison, Army, Panama. Motion made seconded and passed to accept all three into membership.   Finance Officer Dave Hodgeboom reported general fund of $4221.59 and Evergreen Boys State at $802.00. Complete report is attached.  Second Vice-Commander, Larry Douglas reported on speakers for upcoming meetings. They will include Chaplain Brewer from Camp Murray on suicide prevention in December and the USO in January.  Sickness and distress, Chaplain Otis Chapman reported the Karen Grundler is recovering after back surgery.  Service Officer Rose Hodgeboom reported that she has processed 14 claims and two TFA’s. She has assisted a homeless vet find housing.  Chaplain Gary Walker reported that Rose Hodgeboom is recovering after her surgery and is doing well.  Walt Morgan is home and doing better. No change on Ed Perez and his family. 
 
Business and Correspondence: 
 
 Siding on Corky’s fifth wheeler will be completed on October 21. Volunteers need to be there at 9:00 am. Contact Otis Chapman.  Commander spoke on the approval of our Atomic Veterans resolution though Department and National. Framed copies of the resolution, post, Department and National have been framed and will be mounted on the wall.
 
Good of the Legion:  Sunday, November 5, we have volunteered to man road crossings for the Turn Back the Clock run in Lacey. Commander will send out emails with updates. Please contact him if you would like to help.  The Post will be hosting the 4th District Fall Conference on Friday, October 20. We need volunteers to help set up and tear down. Meet at the Post at 10:00 am.  Debbie Donaldson, 4th District President and Gift Shop Chair, reported that the American Lake Gift shop will be November 28 and 29 and the truck will be loaded on the 27th. The Orting Gift Shop will be December 4, 5, and 6. The National President will visit on December 4.  Commander announced his intention to start a Law Enforcement and Firefighter of the Year program with the City of Lacey. He plans to present award at our annual steak night.  Dave Hodgeboom spoke on the Department Centennial Coin available from Department and on Walgren’s flu shot program for vets.

3 The gavel was passed to 4th District Commander Frank Sterling. He spoke on “mutual helpfulness” and asked our support for the Gift Shops. It costs more the $3000 to mail packages to family members.
