Grandview’s American Legion Post 57 has announced the recipients of various academic awards at Grandview High School as well as The American Legion School Award recipients for Grandview schools.

During the Senior Awards Ceremony at Grandview High School, Post Commander Robert Gates presented awards for a number of academic scholars in the athletic and vocational programs. For Athletic Scholars, Amanda Oliver received the gold medal, Teagan Parrish received the silver medal and Marc Martinez received the bronze medal.

Vocational scholars were Kassidy Hurst, FFA gold medal, Amanda Oliver, DECA gold medal, Samantha Bailes, silver medal and Alondra Perez, bronze medal. Medals in both programs were presented based on grade point average, not whether the recipient was a senior.

The state champion women’s wrestlers were presented with gold medals in recognition of their achievement. They were Desiree Zavala, Viannei Perez, Jasel Perez and Maria Reyes.

Good Citizenship medals were presented to the 2015 Evergreen Boys State and Girls State delegates, Miguel Moreno and Gloria Guizar.

The American legion School Award, recognizing courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service is presented to a boy and girl from each graduating class in each school. The Grandview High School recipients were Samantha Bailes and Erick Rodriguez. Certificates of honorable mention were presented to Anthony Mendoza and Miranda Roberson.

During the Compass High School graduation, School Awards were presented to Luis Castaneda and Leslie Mendoza.

Other School Award recipients in Grandview schools were Destiny Beletran, Grandview Middle School, Jonathon Flores and Lilly Kassinger, Thompson School, Mayra Perez and Hunter Varela, McClure School and Jordan Hernandez and Ariana Vargas of Smith School.

Honorable Mention certificates were presented to Yarytzel Uribe, Thompson School and Angel Mendoza, Israel Valencia and Betzabet Villa of Smith School.
