The Fred E. Hayes Post No. 57 of the American Legion was organized in Grandview, April 3, 1919. The charter members were: Lonnie E. Little, Chapin D. Foster, Paul W. Thiele, David A. Linder, Raymond Capps, George M. Toner, Harvey E. Brown, Clifford M. Mains, C. A. Newman, A. B. Hayes, David L. Johnson, A. J. Urich, Earl Loop, Hubbard Duncan, W. K. McLellan and K. Kerman.
The first officers were: Commander W. L. Close and Adjutant Geo. Toner.
