James "Chick" Roberson was part of Marine squad to first reach the summit of Mt. Surabachi on the Japanese-held island of Iwo Jima and raise the 1st American Flag. His fellow Marines gave him the nickname "Chick" because he was so young at age 17. "Chick" refused to be photographed at the flag raising stating that he "was not a Hollywood Marine".
