On July 9th Commander Houghton escorted the Department Adjutant to the 13th District Commander of the Seattle Coast Guard bases Change of Command ceremony. The 13th District for the Coast Guard sits directly adjacent to the City of Seattle and is a primary servicemember area that was served by Post 206 during the Government Shutdown, in which the Coast Guard was affected. The American Legion utilized their Temporary Financial Assistance program to aid service members of the Coast Guard with over $1,000,000 in grants. Post 206 Commander Houghton processed over 15 of these applications directly to the Department of Washington during the shutdown.
