Students at James Madison Junior High School are saluting a brand new gold-fringed American Flag, a gift from West Seattle American Legion Post No. 160. Presentation was made last Wednesday morning in the auditorium.

Presentation was made by Col. Don Gaines, representing the Legion, and Mrs. James J. Romano Auxiliary President, and Mrs. W. J. Emmons, Americanism chairman. Helen Hunter accepted the flag on behalf of the student body at the first assembly and Bob Mullison made the office acceptance at the second assembly.

Addressing the students, Col. Gaines said "Twenty-two years ago the American Legion was privileged to present the flag to what was then our new Junior High School. It was quite fitting that this organization of veterans who fought under our flag should be chosen to present this symbol of our country to one of its greatest institutions-our public school.

With the passage of time, the old flag gradually came to such condition that it no longer was a fitting emblem for display. It was time that the old colors be retired and replaced by new colors.
"West Seattle Post No. 160, the American Legion, and its ladies Auxiliary Unit are again proud to be chosen to present these new colors."
"It is well that we pause for a moment to think of the significance of our flag. It is a symbol of our country and of the principles for which it stands. It reminds us of the opportunities and privileges we enjoy in America. In our pledge to the flag we state our duty to our country-our duty to defend it, to keep it secure."
"Let us remember that it is your flag and my flag. Let us not forget that it represents our America which will always be what you and I make it, and nothing more." "Mrs. Willa Romano, president of the West Seattle Unit No. 160 and Mrs. Marian Emmons, the Americanism, chairman, are proud to join with me in this ceremony."
