Members of Post 130 with much enthusiasm and donated labor, as well as a bond issue, built the Legion Hall. The building still stands on the corner of Second Avenue and 7th Street. Members left to right are Chester C. Woodall, Grover H. Seat, Ford C. Hovis, and George W. Forrest.

Zillah Post Moves to Orchardvale School 1947-1951

In 1945 the Zillah and Orchardvale school districts consolidated and the Orchardvale school was closed. The Post bought the property in the summer of 1947. The old Post home had become too small after the end of WWII and many new members had joined. The property was sold to the Orchardvale Grange for $7,000.00 in 1951.

Charles Skinner, president of the Zillah Lions Club, and Dale Logsdon, Commander of the James H. Schooley American Legion Post 130, present a new Washington State flag and American flag to Wayne Harrold, principal of the Geoff Hilton Elementary School. The front part of the school and flags burned. Classes were still held in the back part of the school.

An old fashioned box supper will highlight the Zillah American Legion 50th Anniversary Saturday night. The Legion celebrates its 50th birthday March 15-17. Four 50-year charter members will be honored during the evening. They are Geoffrey Hilton, Fred Hovis, and Herron Wilson, Zillah members, and Grover Seat from Yakima. They will be presented with 50-year pins, certificates and patches to be worn on their Legion caps. The members have been very active in Legion through..

PFC James Lee Miller was killed in action March 29th, 2010 at Dashat, Afganistan. He received a heroes welcome and was laid to rest April 10th, 2010. He was 21 years old.

Zillah Community Days Parade

Post 130 member Jay S. III, Vice-Commander, helps set the parade in motion. The local Legion stakes the parade entry field for staging and releases the entries for the parade route. We had about ten members help for this years parade of 70 entries.

Zillah’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration takes place at a new location, Cemetery Park. Due to the location change, fireworks will be prohibited in Stewart Park this year. Also, there will be no aerial fireworks show, but organizers are setting aside an area where people can light off their own safe-and-sane fireworks. The American Legion will be selling fireworks in the fireworks stand at Lep-re-kon Harvest Foods July 1st through the 4th.

Veterans Day Program

Post 130 members presented a Veterans Day program at all four Zillah schools. It was very well received by the students and staff. The Zillah Middle School presented all of the military members present with a hero certificate. They also set up a POW/MIA table.
