A tradition in Colonial Beach is a gathering of residents to pack boxes for the needy at Christmas. Francis Karn, Post Service Officer and Secretary Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce had been with the program since it started in 1946. Every year the residents gather at the Post Hall to pack boxes. Others deliver gifts and fruit baskets to residents of nearby nursing homes. This year donated items totaled approximately $30,000 in value. The article is from the Free Lance Star published on December 21, 1992.
