Flowers were sent to the funeral of Captain Billy Stanford. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War, perhaps the last veteran of this war in the locality. The Ladies Auxiliary paid $400 toward bank note. Principal Burchell requested use of the hall for one of his class functions. Mrs. Arlene Johnson requested the hall for baton twirling class. William S. Thour was elected as Legionnaire of the Year. Note name change of the award. Two boys were selected for Boys State. Mrs. Trigger requested the hall for baton twirling class. There were two different majorette groups in town. The Post sponsored one of these groups, the Legionnaires. The other group was the Twirlettes. Uniforms were red, white, and blue polyester. Doris Kemp and Arlene (Jenkins) Johnson were the leaders. Bingo was still proving to be a major fundraiser. A door was put into the downstairs kitchen and a heating duct run. This helped keep the pipes warm that kept freezing during the winter months. The Eighth District Fall Conference was hosted by the Post. The men met at the Fire House and the Ladies in the Post Hall. The Hall kitchen was used to prepare the food for the conference dinner. A bazaar was held to raise money to go toward the bank note. Won the Child Welfare Award again. The Little League Baseball Team won the league and Mr. Garland Inscoe provided the boys with a barbeque. The Post provided pins for the team for their accomplishments. The Post also held a Little League Night at the Post. The Lions Clubs presented a large team trophy. The Post was broken into and some minor damage done. The matter was referred to the police. Colonial Beach Mayor B.F.Denson (WWII Navy Veteran) was the featured speaker at the Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Post and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 131.
