
Valerie Helen Henry was the Girls’ State representative. The Ladies Auxiliary was given permission to put up a Legionnaires Welcome sign at the Beach Gate. The 8th District meeting was held at the Post. The roof between the kitchen and the main Post building was leaking. Of note is that the Post changed oil companies every year. They used Pearsons, Ware, Cooper, Humble and Norman oil companies. Service Officer Frances Karn moved to have a luncheon to honor Garland Inscoe & Town Sergeant Anderson. She wanted also present the Girl & Boy State representative and the Little League Baseball team. Paul Conner prepared the food. Mrs. Will Caruthers passed and the Post donated $10 to the Colonial Beach Library Fund. Held a 50th American Legion Anniversary banquet. Received $57.89 from the United Givers Fund. School students held a Snow Queen Christmas Dance. The membership voted to pay the annual dues for Post Legionnaires who served WWI. The Post gave (Father) Captain (Chaplain) Angelo J. Litekey (SJ) a Certificate honoring his receipt of the Medal of Honor during service in Vietnam. Historical note: He later renounced this MOH in 1986 to protest U.S. Policy in Central America. He also resigned from his religious order. His given name was Charles. Went to Robert E. Lee High School where he was the football team quarterback.
LCDR W.E. Parsons, Chaplain was the featured speaker at the Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Post and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 131.
Also of note is that Francis Baird, former Post Commander, was the Department Vice Commander.
