Vietnam Veterans Committee was organized to recruit Vietnam veterans. There were two machines, one Coke, one Pepsi that needed to be serviced. The ladies aux donated $150 to the building fund. A surprise sweet sixteen birthday party was held for for Lora Lee. The Valants would use the building every Wednesday. Comrade Earnest Davis was presented Card and Rocket Club of Virginia for having turned in 27 members dues for renewal and new members. Another performance in July by the Valants. Mr. & Mrs. William Parker held Bingo games for the Ladies Auxiliary the first and third Thursdays every month. Club dues were reduced to $5 for Legionnaires and $10 for associate members. Sent 60 boxes of fruit and 31 food boxes were sent to servicemen in Vietnam. Four food boxes were left at Town Hall. Public Relations Officer Earl Moore found a Post Home dedication program. Passed a resolution protesting a Department of Defense policy that burial in Arlington National Cemetery be based on rank or prestige. Also passed a resolution supporting H.R. 188 which was a bill designed to provide assistance to students pursuing programs of higher education in the fields of law enforcement and of correctional treatment of law violators. Passed another resolution asking the Governor of Virginia give preference to war-service veterans in the positions of guides and other personnel employed at the Virginia World War II and Korean War Memorial. Another resolution was passed that the American Legion, Department of Virginia official sponsor the Department Commander and such persons as he may designate to accompany him to visit South Vietnam to observe the daily events in that nation.
