A movie was shown as a benefit. Price of admission was canned goods to be used for food baskets for Christmas. The Fire Department in Dahlgren repaired toys to be given to the children. The Police Department agreed to raise and lower the flag outside the Post daily. Ordered 80 Canteen Books for men at McGuire Hospital. Purchased candy to send to the boys in Vietnam. Another play was held in the Hall put on by the Valiants. The Valiants, organized by Mrs. L. C. Rosner consisting of almost 20 children and young people. This group purchased and installed the stage curtain. The Memorial Day Service was jointly held by the American Legion and Fleet Reserve. New Club rules were approved (September ‘66). No more card games and the poker table was to be removed. The card room was to be made into a locker room and file cabinets. Permission granted for use of the building for a wedding reception and political meeting sponsored by the Westmoreland Jaycees. Donated $10 to the book mobile. July’s minutes showed the SAL now defunct and the funds turned over to the Finance Officer. Otto Osmondson had passed in 1966. A school graduation day dance was held. Six Post members were elected for Life Membership: Joseph W. Pospiesiel (deceased) who joined the American Legion at Founder’s Post in Paris, France; Robert W. Rollins; and Charter Members Gordon Caplinger, Franklin C. Caruthers, Joseph Schmidt and Henry B. Washington.
