
On April 19th at 1:00 pm the American Legion nation-wide rang church bells in participation of the “Bells Across America” event. “School, church and bells of all kinds rang in unison for four minutes to remind all citizens of their heritage of freedom, and remind the world that the bells sound, not as a new call to arms, but as a massive voluntary demonstration that America is already armed.... In unity, spirit and deep moral conviction.” Charles L. Bacon, American Legion National Commander.
Mr. Ford Walker attended a meeting regarding procurement of a Memorial Plaque. The children who attended record hops pooled their money and they and the Post bought a bicycle which Mayor Denson presented to a deserving youth, Master Brown. One of the members invited the Legionnaires to visit the new Baptist Church. The Post won the 8th District Child Welfare Trophy. The annual Post Crab Feast was held at Miller’s Crab Shore, cost $2.00 per person. St. Elizabeth’s Church was given permission to use the building. The Confraternity of the Most Holy Name of God and Jesus held a dance in the building. Held a dinner for the Gold Star Mothers and Father. Held the December meeting at Bernadine’s Restaurant. The Post accepted a contract with Mr. Davis for cleaning, event setup, etc for $20.00 a month.
