Several preliminary meetings were held in the store of Royal F. Britain and on September 20,1919 the frist regular meeting was held in the Village Hall and the first Commander Eric R. Britain was elected.

 On February 5,1920 the Post changed its name to Sorrell-Maynard Post No. 63 in honor of two Northfield men who had laid down their lives in France,Wilmer N. Sorrell and Nelson G. Maynard
