Everett enlisted in the Army Air Forces. Had the rank of First Lieutenant. Service number: 0-331381.

He served with the Aviation, 803rd Engineer battalion.

Carney experienced a traumatic event which resulted in the loss of life on September 20, 1942. This occurred around the Phillipines. He died as Prisoner of War under Japanese control.

He was a POW at Cabanatuan POW Camp. The Japanese moved their prisoners to this former Army encampment following the Bataan march to camp Odonnell and then to Cabanatuan. The Japanese subjected their prisoners to starvation, cruel and abusive treatment. The prisoners had no medical treatment for wounds and succumbed to the horrors of the death camp. Those that were able to work, were daily driven to exhaustion working in the fields. There was no sanitation, clean water or supplies of food. The great raid of 1945 finally freed the American and Phillipine soldiers from the horrific prison camp.

Lt Carney received the Silver Star Posthumously.

He is memorialized at Plot H, Row 5, Grave 124, Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Phillipines. May God Bless him for his service and sacrifice.
