John Kenneth Roberts

11/5/1906-11/3/74

 

Born in Chateauway, NY. Graduated from Malone HS and Albany Business School.

 

He worked in the Chief Engineers Office of the Rutland Railroad and was Assistant Treasurer.

 

He enlisted in the US Army WWII 6/18/1942-11/1/1945 and discharged as a Master Sgt.

 

He was the Cashier/treasurer of the Rutland City Lunch Program.

 

The treasurer for the Rutland Chapter of Red Cross. Headed the Military veterans and families program. 

 

On the board of directors for the United Way.

 

Past Master of the Masons, Rutland Humane Society Board, VFW.

 

Post Commander 1953-54. He was on the Honor guard for all military funerals. He was post finance officer for several years. 

 

His wife Zereda was extremely active in the 8&40 and Unit #31 Auxiliary. She was unit President 1955. She was tragically killed in a head on collision October 24, 1966 with two of her sisters. 

 

J.K. Roberts was diagnosed with Lung cancer and died 1974. He is buried in Evergreen cemetery.
