Daniel W. Allen

12/24/1908-6/17/2001

 

Born in Quincy, Mass. He graduated from Northeastern University as a civil engineer. 

He moved to Vermont in 1930’s and opened Tydol Gas Station. 

 

World War II veteran enlisted 5/22/1942 and was with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a Captain and Commander of an all black battalion serving in the Phillipines. 

 

He worked as a civil engineer for the state of Vermont building roads and bridges. He then started his own company Allen Enginneering Pools and Spas in 1957. 

 

He was an Alderman for the city of Rutland for 11 years.

 

Served 6 terms in the House of Representatives. He also was a director of urban renewal. 

 

He was Post #31 Commander 1949-1950. 

 

Died age 92 and is buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon, VT
