Earl Thomas Tower

4/21/1898-11/22/1951

 

1915: Earl and his brothers made up the “Tower Brothers Orchestra”. Earl played violin and piano.

 

Studied at the University of Portland, Maine for accounting. He was Captain of the College basketball team and graduated with honors.He joined the Naval Reserves, Station site Cape Elizabeth, Maine doing coast patrol. He was then activated and with the Quartermaster corps he was assigned to the Naval Sub Chaser unit from 4/19/17-6/12/1919 stationed in  Penzance, England. He held the rank of Quartermaster 2d class. 

 

He returned home and worked for the Rutland Railroad in the auditing department. (1919-1922).

 

1922 Earl opens his own accounting firm.

 

1924 Speaker at the Rutland grade school (5-8), regarding his service for “Patriotism Day” a program the American Legion post initiated to educate our children. 

 

1925-26 He becomes Post Adjutant

 

1927 Seems to be a busy time he becomes Post #31 Commander; 

Rutland city auditor (with fellow Legionnaire George Sabin)

Department of Vermont American Legion Chairman of Auditing Committee

Boy and Girl Scout program fund raising supporter

Joins the Rutland Elks Lodge ( he would later years become Exalted Ruler)

Rutland country club treasurer

 

His obituary says he retired from the US Army reserves as a Captain.

 

1950 His health became poor with hospitalizations to the Vermont Veterans Hospital and he dies 11/22/51. Funeral at Christ the King and he is buried at Evergreen Cemetery.
