Richard Farmer was born in Springfield, VT. His father worked at the Jones and Lampson Machine Tool during the war and assembled the machines that made the .40mm anti-aircraft gun.They moved to Granby, Vermont at the end of the war and then to Groton, VT (Noyes Pond). His parents were caretakers for the Noyes farm Until 1950 and they returned to Springfield, VT to J&L. 

Dick graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1962.He was quite the football player. Also participated in basketball (manager) and track. He went to Yankton College, South Dakota to play football, which he did for 2 years. Graduated 1966 with a major in Education, Major in History and minor in English, science and physical education. 

He became a teacher at Springfield High School 1966-69 teaching US History, Freshman History and coached football, Skiing and Tennis. 

 

1969 he joined the US Army Reserves stationed in Chester, VT. Basic and IADT was at Fort Knox, Kentucky (1969). Attended Vermont National Guard OCS and received his commission in 1971. MOS: Chemical Corps. and Military Police. 

1970 Signed a contract with Bellows Falls Union HS, as US History teacher, coaching football, skiing and tennis. He retired in 2000.

Post Commander Chester Post #67   1999-2000.and dedicated member of the Post Colorguard 1984-2005. 

2004 Windsor County Cdr, 2005 5th District Cdr, 2006 Southern Area Cdr, 2007 Senior Vice Cdr and Dept.  Membership Chairman, 2008 Department Commander. 

National Executive Committeeman: 2001-2003 alternate 2003-2005 NEC. 

Served on Department Internal affairs, Education and scholarship, Children and Youth, Legislative Chairman. 

 Governors Veterans Council from 2001-2021. 

RECEIVED THE HONORS AT NATIONAL CONVENTION FOR #1 MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATION. 

Married to Linda, Past Department President.
