"Stub" Sherman was born April 11,1941 in Duxbury, VT. He graduated class of 1959 from Waterbury High School. 

Served three years in the US Army 1960-63.

Worked for the State Highway Dept. and Vermont State hospital in Waterbury.

Post #59 Harry N. Cutting Commander : 1991-92 and 1994-97. He is a Paid up For Life Member.

3rd District Commander 1999-2000; Northern Area Cdr 2000-2001; Senior Vice Commander 2001-2002; Department Membership Chairman 2001-02. 

Department Commander 2002-2003.

Alternate NEC 2003-05; Natonal Executive Committeeman 2005-07. 

Department Baseball/Athletic Committee 15 year tenure. In 2002 He became the baseball commissioner. He retired in 2009. However, he was accomplished in hosting the New England Regional Tournament, first one in Vermont in 25 years, in 2007. 

Upon his retirement 2009 from American Legion baseball, Stub received the John Boulanger Leadership Award and the Joe Pattison Faithful Service Award. Thus proving the love that the American Legion coaches and teams felt about his service to them. 

 

National appointments: Foreign Relations 2003-04; Legislative 2005-07; National Security 2006-07; Public Relations 2005-2006. 

Stub Sherman and his wife Past Department President Patricia SHerman, spend summers in Vermont and winters in Florida. He has a large family, as well as, friends. 

2021 The Department of Vermont honored this humble servant of The American Legion, with naming the Legionnaire of The Year award, the highest honor in the Department as the Rodney Sherman Legionnaire of the Year Award. No one has exemplified the qualities of leadership, honesty, integrity and honor as well as Stub. He truly exemplifies all that is good in the organization.
