Wayne P. "Bylaws" Mclean was born Dec 3, 1931 in Lincoln, VT. Graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School.

Korean War Veteran: Electricians Mate 1st class; US Navy enlisting Chester Vermont. Stationed on the USS Libra

1958 Wayne suffered a cerebral aneurysm, 28 years old, he lay in a coma. If not for the Veterans of Post #37 finding him ill, transporting him to the VA Hospital, caring for his family while comatose and then assisting him with rehabilitation, he would never have known the true spirit of The American Legion. He began his journey of returning the favor and paying it forward to others. Due to the cerebral hemorrhage, his speech was effected, for many, that would have been a disability, not for Wayne, it made him the best listener Legion family members had and it gave a voice to others.

Civilian: Worked for 32 years for Holmes Transportation as a truck driver.

1981-82 Commander of Pierce Lawton Post #37

Department Commander 1987-88: his passion was with youth programs, Boy Scouts and Baseball particularly. He knew the impact these programs made on the youth and he was their biggest advocate.

Department of VT Southern Area Legion baseball Commissioner. When Wayne passed away they named the Southern Area Baseball Tournament in his name and made a special Department Scholarship Award for the child that, perhaps wasnt the MVP, but the young ball player that hustled the most during the season. Someone who faced challenges and made a difference.

Wayne died suddenly Feb 12, 2000 of cardiac arrest. He is buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Bellows Falls, VT.
