
George Harrington, born in Poultney,VT December 14, 1917. As a young boy he worked at the Birdseye Diner to pay for tuition to Castleton Teachers College. He taught for three years in a small town near Barre, VT.
He joined the Army during WWII servng April 29,1942-April 13,1946. He stayed with the Army Reserves after WWII.
1949 He graduated from Albany Law School and passed the bar. He served the Castleton community as a lawyer. Often times his clients were those that could not always afford his service, but he always gave them his all.
1950 he was called back to service during the Korean War. His rank on discharge Captain. After the war he became a foster parent to a young Korean boy.
He coached Little League in Castleton, member of the PTA, State Bar Association, VFW, Grange, Lions.
1955-57 State representative for Castleton.
1959-60 State Commander.
He died suddenly , August 28, 1960, just weeks after The American Legion Convention, from incarcerated and infected post surgical hernia repair. Buried at Hillside cemetery, Castleton, VT . He was just 42 years old.
