With the sudden death in 1945 of Harry N. Cutting, Department Service Officer, Les Wilson felt the need to resign as Department Adjutant, after 16 years of dedication to the administration of the Department. He took on the responsibility of filling in as Department Service officer to ensure that all veterans, returning from WWII were provided the very best The American Legion had to provde for service. He later worked at the VA Hospital as a rating specialist until retirement to Florida.

Enlisted 3/30/1917 New Haven Connecticut. Company E, 2d Conn. Infantry; 3rd Bn Army Officer Candidate School To 9/13/1918.Overseas service: 10/16/1917--3/26/1919. Wounded in action 7/14/1918. Retired as a LTC Vermont National Guard.
Les Wilson was a man of many strengths and was the rudder on the ship that drove The Vermont American Legion.
Moved to Florida 1961. He died in Seminole Florida of Natural causes age 95 years. He was a 70 year member of The American Legion. He is buried at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Pinella Florida.
