Asa Schoonmaker Bloomer born in Proctor, VT 8/15/1891; graduated from Rutland HS class of 1906. He was a baseball and basketball player known in the area.

Rutland County State Attorney ( making his mark right out of law school with prosecuting a corruption scandal of the Marble Savings Bank: placing past Department Adjutant and Past Post Commander #31 John J. Cocklin in jail for 15 years)

State Senator 1947-1963. He was President pro tem.
He suffered a heart attack during a joint session of the General Assembly on Feb 22, 1963. He took a cab to the local hospital and within 1 1/2 hours there, past away. Democrats and Republicans, Vermonters across the state were stunned, and at a loss. His leadership,his slow drawl, common sense and love for the law and the rules of the government were safe in the hands of a man that truly cared for the little man.
He propsed a Bill that prohibited descrimination of race or religeous reasons in advertisements. Ace was always on the side of the common man.
Strong family man, never drank or smoked, raised to sons that worked in the Bloomer law firm. His oldest son Robert, took his seat in the Senate, appointed by the governor.
