Robert W, McCuen, son of an Irish immigrant, he was  born in Vergennes May 30, 1880. He was educated in the schools in Vergennes, Vt, attended Middlebury College and graduated from Boston University Law School. He returned to Vergennes and practiced law, represented Vergennes in the legislature and Addison County Senator. 

He owned the Enterprise, Vermonter,Orwell Citizen newspapers. He also acquired interest in the Middlebury Registry and for several years was the editor and a writer. (this paper, early on posted all Department Executive board minutes and correspondence). 

He was a revenue collector for State of Vermont and held the position until 1932. 

He served in the Internal Revenue service in Washington, DC., upon his return he served the residents of Vergennes as a lawyer and a legislature. 

Past Post Commander of Vergennes Post #14; (most Legion papers state Burlington #2,)

He became Department Commander 1925-26. 

 

He belonged to Vergennes Elks, Masons Shrine, Rotary Club, St. Paul's Episcopal Church (vestryman). 

 

Died of Prostate Cancer with complications: August 6, 1945 Buried at the Prospect Cemetery Vergennes
