Lewis G. GRAHAM, Jr.

I was born June 23, 1942 in Montpelier, VT in Washington County. Both parents are Vermonters. I was raised and educated mostly in Washington County and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1961.

I joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1962 and went through Security Training and was posted in the K9 corps at R.A.F. Bentwater in Suffolk County, England approximately 15 air miles from the North Sea, under the guidance of the English (British) military. I was able to holiday on the continent in Holland and Germany. I came back to the zone of the interior in late 1965 and was honorably discharged.

At this time, I became a police officer for Barre City for about 12 years. Then I established my own business and joined the Reserve Jump Unit. I retired in 2005 as a Staff Sergeant in logistics.

I was married for 40 years and have a daughter.

I have been active in the American Legion for the past 47 years. I held several offices and was Commander for four years. During my terms as Commander, Ron Tallman and I were able to install the granite post and community event sign out front and the Post raised $20,000 to repair our 40-year-old roof at the same time as major reconstruction of Barre’s Main Street interfered with the normal access to our building.  Along with Penny Brown, I established the Central Vermont American Legion Riders at the Post, now in its 10th year.  I have held state offices and committee positions: County Commander, 2 years; Third District Commander; two years as Director for the Legion Riders; and member of the evaluation and athletic committees. I often attend National Convention to keep abreast of the impact our organization has on a national basis.

I still enjoy riding my Can-Am motorcycle and small vacations in state and up state.
