Elmer Raymond Hunting, seventh commander (1925), was born in Ascot, Quebec, in 1892, and lived in St. Albans. He enlisted in the US Army on 14 December 1917 at Fort Meyer, Virginia. He served in the Ordinance Department in Washington until 23 April 1918, Camp Hancock, Georgia to 8 August 1918, then with Headquarters Company, 605th Engineers until discharge at Camp Meade, Maryland on 24 June 1919.  He held the rank of Corporal effective 1 January 1918 and served overseas from 30 September 1918 to 19 June 1919.

Buried in the Green Mountain Cemetery, Montpelier.
