The American Legion, Department of Utah, Vice-Commanders Report
For 2012-2013

This has been an amazing year. The final membership numbers are not in so we cannot report that are a 100% Quota Department.(We exceeded with 103% Membership) We had envisioned an early Membership drive and we did. The momentum has lasted and has continued and will continue right to the day of the State Convention. We can report that we hit every national quota target date that was required. We did the Membership Revitalization program in the South in September and one in The North in January. To be successful in the future we need dedicate the time in August and September. We would be more successful if we did them After September 11th, but still in the month of September. The Veterans Day obligations keep the Southern Commanders from attending re-vitalization and the January weather keep the Northern Commanders from attending. We were overall successful but were tied to dates from National that forced the Veterans Day Re-vitalization to happen that weekend. The Department Commander and I went to “National Headquarters” for Membership training in August. We learned a lot and we reported many great ideas for membership and opportunities to Retain, Renew and Recruit. But the final opportunity for our Department was the honor to re-dedicate our efforts from a Quota or goal to a Tribute. That to us made perfect sense and a tribute for all the years National Committee Chairman Bill Christofferson has given to teach, educate, legislate, mentor and touch every Utah Legionnaires life and our hearts. Bill you gave us reason and made the commitment more meaningful.

Over the years the comment that was made several times by our Members is “I want to be a member but I can not contribute to coming out to the meeting.” Our response to that is: “Thank you for being the most important element and link in our organization”. With out Membership we could not accomplish the many facets of programs and pass legislation with out you. We are told that by our numbers legislative leaders want to hear us. Everyone is important so Thank you for your time honored memberships.

June is Department Convention and we will see our final Tribute Membership numbers. Thank you for the greatest adventure and your support to make this the most remember able year for Linda’s and I. Thank you for your cordial hospitality and friendship. We are looking forward to the Operation Warrior Comfort “OWC” Ride. It is our sincere desire to raise a lot of funds for the Department’s Program.

Congratulations to The Department of Utah and have a great State Convention experience.
