Commanders Corner
April 1, 2013
· March 19th, 2013 was a historical day and the passing of another era. As you all know we lost our contract with the City of Provo in October of 2012. We received a letter Sun-setting our contract with the city that has lasted since many of us were born. We tried very hard to work out a contract that would extend our 89 years left on our old contract with the Parks and Recreation Department. As the Veterans voice through this process I could not accept the offer to use a facility that had to be scheduled monthly, haul our business up 2 floors, set up, take down, and haul back down where ever we could store our organization administrative supplies and equipment. And we would have to sign a year-by- year Agreement. That meant we would have to re-new our agreements on a yearly basis with too much uncertainty of a future for our Veterans. What the city was telling us was that they had no rooms to give us to meet and no storage space for our historical and organizational equipment. I then started discussions and asked for help finding other alternatives. The County offered us the Old Historical Courthouse. The support was and is overwhelming. We have a permanent office to work out of, Storage space for administration-historical storage and meeting rooms for our organizations membership and auxiliaries. Best of all - --this is for all Veteran Organizations in Utah County scheduled thru the American Legion Facility Coordinator to handle all Veteran County affairs for facility use and scheduling. We thank Tim Matthews, Commander DAV for his personal time and assistance to coordinate with us to make this a reality.
