Commanders Corner
Quarterly Letter

Legionnaires, Auxiliary, Son’s of the American Legion and Legion Riders – Thank you for your Membership, Leadership, Participation and Service to The American Legion.

I cannot believe that 2 years will have past and how much we have accomplished together. I want to thank You for your trust and confidence you have given me as your Post Commander. We are asking again for your Membership for the coming year. Membership is measured from August to August. Your Paid Memberships are the resources that keep our Programs and Scholarships alive for the youth of our Community. I was humbled when told by a former member “ We do nothing in our Post except send Boys and Girls to Boys and Girls State”. I think it important to tell you what your dues represent and your Organization does besides that.

This year, Thank you to Jim Donnells, Americanism Chairman, We sent Boys State and Girls State to Weber and Dixie College. As a Post We Sponsored Spring and Fall soccer, We presented Academic and Military Excellent awards to BYU Army and Air Force JROTC, Provo High School JROTC and Independence JROTC High School, We did the Flag Retirement Ceremony for the Freedom Festival, We participated on the Mayors Veteran’s Council and jointly worked and participated in the Memorial Day, Veterans Day and 911 events. We Posted the Colors for the Gala during the Freedom Festival Event and We Honored 2 Veteran’s during Funeral Detail and Color Guard ceremonies. We provided leadership through the Scout Office, filming for Flag Protocol at BYU for Scout Certification, and we provided Flag Retirement for Scout activities. Plus, We presented 18 Korean Veteran’s with “Certificate of Appreciation” and other services too numerous to mention in this letter.

This year 2012-2013 as your Department’s Vice Commander and Chairman of Membership, for the State, I see this Membership drive in a much broader spectrum. Through your currently paid dues, our Sponsors and the efforts of our Volunteers we have the means to finance and Chair the programs that have been the major part of for our community since 1919.

As your Post Commander I have had to resource our community to keep Our Programs alive and funded. I am asking that as a “Post Effort”, we make our Membership Goal of 100% + 5. I plead your help to make the National Commanders Goals of 100% + 5, by talking to your neighbors, friends, returned Veterans and acquaintances to join the American Legion today. You are the “Life and Blood” of making our services available.

When you pay your membership ask just one more to join with you. I will commit to make your monthly events more meaningful, more reason to attend and more purposeful to our community youth. Please help The Dean Mendenhall, Provo Post 13, be the Best Department example of Membership for 2012-2013.
Please renew today.
