Celebrating the Christmas season, the ladies of Auxiliary Unit 240 once again performed above and beyond the call of duty by decorating the Brad Thompson meeting room with a Christmas theme of red table covering and Christmas ornaments strategically placed through out the room. Christmas music added to the festive atmosphere as attendees enjoyed a meal of turkey and ham with sides.

Past Post 240 Commander Marilyn Smith (Photo) traveling from her home in Waco, Texas, was present to receive Turnbow-Higgs Post 240 Honorary Life Membership recognition. Marilyn is the eleventh (11) Turnbow-Higgs Post 240 member to receive this distinction during the ninety-six (96) year history of Post 240.

Other distinguished members of this group and the year they were honored are; Brad Thompson (D), John Rogers & Ben B. McCollum (D)- 1992; Brian Whitecotton & B.R. Kirkland- 1998; J. Fred Cross- 2002; Leroy Griffin- 2007; Don Douglas- 2011 (D); Roger Easter- 2014; James T. (Tom) Smith Sr. – 2015 and Marilyn Smith- 2016.

Prior to relocating in Waco, Marilyn and Husband Tom, were loyal and dedicated members of Post and Auxiliary 240. Both served on the Honor Guard team and for several years, they were the Post/Aux Nursing Home visitation team. Marilyn also served as Auxiliary Unit 240 President.

Marilyn and Tom have the distinction of being Post 240’s only Honorary Life Member married couple. They also, have the distinction of being Post 240’s only family membership.

Son John, a Gulf War Era Navy Veteran, is in his Twenty-First (21) year of continuous service to the American legion.
