Post 240 Legionnaires attending the May 6, 2016 TSU ROTC commissioning ceremony were privileged to witness LTC Marty Deckard, Professor of Military Science (and Legionnaire) rendering the commissioning of service oath to Eighteen ROTC cadets, 15 from TSU and 3 from Central Texas. Most of the new 2nd Lieutenants were continuing a family tradition of Military service. Several proud fathers, and one grandfather received the traditional silver dollar by rendering the first salute to the newly commissioned officers.

The traditional cutting of the cake by the oldest veteran and youngest cadet present, saw Post 240 Legionnaire, John Rogers, at 96 years young, wielding the saber with a shout “Go Navy” as audience cheered. This is the second consecutive year Post 240 has had the honor of cutting the cake. Fred Cross stepped forward last year when it appeared LeRoy Griffin would miss the occasion due to chemo treatments. LeRoy will be Post 240’s nominee at this fall’s ceremony.
