Our lives; Our Stories...OUR GREATEST GENERATION Museum Exhibit Sponsored by Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council occurred this weekend at the Eastland Museum. Stephenville Mayor Kenny Weldon was the Guest Speaker and Post 240 Legionnaires Roger Easter (MC), Leroy Griffin (Chaplain) and Commander, Jim Cox (Taps) played key roles in the Opening event. Other Post 240 members present were Fred Cross,Brad Thompson, Joanna Lay, Norman Craig and Walter Williams. American Legion Members from Rising Star, Abilene and Leuders were also in attendance. Local VFW Post led by Reuben Zarate was present in numbers and did an outstanding job in assisting with the set up and providing assistance where needed during the opening event and afterwards ushering at the Theatre. My compliments to a hard working group of veterans. You make us proud! TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY ROTC color guard cadets were present led by Captain Frank Dolberry and as usual were magnificence in their Presentation of colors and 3-rifle volley salute. An entertainment act calling themselves the Sisters of the Andrews Sisters closed the grand opening event with 1940’s music including ‘Boogie Woogie Soldier Boy and Sentimental Journey. It was a fabulous exhibit and those of us who grew up in the 40’s were reminded of those days when seeing an old console radio, soda fountain and many other items of that period. The exhibit will remain open until March 14, 2015 and will then pack up for next stop in Lubbock, Texas. Plan to visit Eastland Museum and don’t leave Eastland without touring the Veteran Memorials at the cemetery. They are Awesome!!!! See Photo Gallery for more photographs of event.
