Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240 and Auxiliary Unit 240 annual Officer Installation Banquet was held Tuesday evening, July 15th, at the Local Post 240 Building.

Standing In photo, newly installed 2014/2015 Officers, Post 240 Commander Jim Cox (L) and Auxiliary Unit 240 President Kathy Geffre (R) are present to congratulate Continuous Service Members (L-R) Brad Thompson (68 yrs), Mickey Maguire (67 yrs.) and John Rogers (68 yrs).

Master of Ceremony, 2013/2014 Commander Roger Easter, gaveled the meeting to order at 6:00 PM and Chaplain LeRoy Griffin opened with the Invocation followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Members and guests were then treated to a delicious chicken fried steak meal served by Littlejohns Catering.

Following the meal, Commander Easter presented 2013/2014 Post 240 officers Certificates of Appreciation for their 2013/2014 service. He then enlisted the help of ‘Life Member’ Brad Thompson, in presenting a Perfect Attendance Certificate, recognizing five members that missed no meetings this past year. They were: Roger Easter, LeRoy Griffin, Brad Thompson, Willis Moon and Walter Williams. Brad spoke briefly and eloquently about the importance of recruiting new members and attending and participating in Post events.

Commander Easter presented Continuous Service Certificates to John Rogers and Brad Thompson for their 68 years of continuous American Legion Membership. Post 240 Member Mickey Maguire was unable to attend the banquet and was presented his Certificate for 67 years of Continuous service at his Oakwood Assisted Living residence.

District 17 Commander Bret Watson from Post 163 in Weatherford, TX was Post 240 American Legion installing officer and conducted the swearing in ceremony for the following members: Commander, Jim Cox; 1st Vice Commander, Walter Williams; 2nd Vice Commander, Rondoe Smith; Adjutant/Historian, Roger Easter; Judge Advocate, Fred Cross; Chaplain, Leroy Griffin and Sgt. At Arms, Willis Moon.

District 17 Auxiliary President, Wanda Pietzch, was the installing officer as the following Auxiliary Unit 240 members took the oath of office for the 2014/2015 year. Kathy Geffre, President; Joanna Lay, Secretary/Treasurer; Johnnie Ratliff, Chaplain; Jean Moon, Sgt At Arms and Auxiliary Historian, Betty Vanderpool.
