WEATHERFORD — About 100 people gathered Monday afternoon for a dedication/groundbreaking ceremony for a new veterans memorial that has been a collaboration among the City of Weatherford, American Legion Post 163 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4746.
American Legion commander Ron Chandler reminded everyone to remember all veterans — and that they are all someone's wife, husband, brother, sister, mother or father.
Veteran Chuck Katlic added that it's important to remember fallen veterans all year long, not just on this one day because their families never forget.
"We must never forget what these heroes have done," Katlic said, "and what their famlies have lost."
City leaders and a representative from Rep. Phil King's office helped with the groundbreaking and spoke at the ceremony.
