PARKER COUNTY — Local veterans’ activist Chuck Katlic has announced new options for local veterans needing transportation to Metroplex Veterans Administration Hospital or clinics.

Katlic said veterans who meet eligibility requirements may get needed rides to medical appointments.

Eligibility requirements:
Veterans whose service-connected disabilities are rated 30 percent or higher.

Veterans traveling for treatment of a service-connected condition.

Veterans who receive a pension.

Veterans traveling for scheduled compensation or pension examinations.

Veterans whose gross household income does not exceed the maximum annual VA pension.

Veterans whose medical condition requires a special mode of transportation, if they are unable to defray the costs and travel is pre-authorized.

Advance authorization is not required in an emergency if a delay would be hazardous to life or health.

If any veteran meets the above criteria, call social worker A. Monique Sklar at (817) 882-6013.

Katlic also added veterans not meeting eligibility requirements may call American Legion Post 163 (817) 594-4101 or Katlic at (817) 599-0992 for help getting a ride.
