Four Chaplains were lost when the troop carrier they were riding was hit by a torpedo, with over 700 aboard only 200+ survived. Chaplain Ray Dye was the moderator. A newly chartered Post 286 @ Parkers Crossroads held its first 4 Chaplains program at the Visitors Center exit 108 off I-40 West. Four speakers read about the individual Chaplains lives. CMDR Fred Miller Post 26 Hunboldt, CMDR Danny Monroe Post 162 Selmer, Lou Holsonback, Adjutant Post 162 Selmer and CMDR Ronnie Butler, Post 243 Scotts Hill TN were the readers. Retired AF E-9 Spurgeon Smith was in dress A-uniform unveiled the photos and placed a rose in the vase ended with a salute to honor each Chaplain lost. The program lasted an hour and was the second in the State, the East area will hold a memorial before the end of the year. We hope to have this done in each division every year. Photos were taken by Department Historian Rex C. McBee.
