Today, in collaboration with the Douglas M. Lyons Post 72 American Legion, Fort Donelson National Cemetery participated in its first-ever Wreaths Across America event, placing sponsored wreaths upon headstones of the national cemetery, a unit of the Fort Donelson National Battlefield.
The intent of the Wreaths Across America program is to:
REMEMBER the Fallen . . .
HONOR those who Serve . . .
TEACH our children the value of Freedom
With temperatures in the 60’s, predicted rain held-off for the ceremony and placement of more than 100 wreaths across the cemetery; roughly 7% of the total grave markers of the site.
We are grateful to the Douglas M. Lyons Post 72 of the American Legion for facilitating this very moving and appropriate ceremony and endeavor.
