Kicking off National Armed Forces Week, Golfers Brandon Parkhurst and Steve Martin shake hands with American Legion Post 22 members Mike Schmidt and James Amundsen at the ninth hole designated the veteran's hole and marked with an American flag during a Golf Tournament at Forrest Crossings Monday, sponsored by Twin Peaks Restaurant.

Inspiration for the tournament was Post 22 member Vietnam Veteran Mike Reeder, who lives within view of the course and is frequently seen playing the course. Reeder has become world renowned for playing golf from a wheelchair. He lost both legs during combat in Vietnam and has earned world fame for the golf technique and the wheelchair he developed to allow him to play his favorite sport - golf. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Post 22 in its mission to mentor youth, advocate patriotism and honor, promote strong national security, instill devotion to service members and veterans and sponsor programs within the community.

The Post also participates in the Legacy Scholarship program, which provides college scholarships to children of active duty service men and women who, during their time in the service passed away - whether on the battlefield or on the home front.
